Reverse Cycle (Heating & Cooling) Air Conditioning Units

What many people don't realise is that there are air conditioners on the market that can also be used to provide indoor heating. These systems are known as Reverse Cycle Air Conditioniners and, as the name implies, the process it uses to cool air can also be reversed to provide heat. They are very efficient and for every kW of electricity consumed, two or more kW of heating or cooling capacity can be produced.

There are several types of air conditioning systems to consider:

Split systems
The advantage of this system is that the outside unit containing the compressor (or motor) can be used to drive multiple indoor fan units. These systems are both efficient and very quiet, and circulate the air evenly.

Window wall units
Window wall units are the most common type of air conditioners and are installed via a hole in an external wall or window frame. These units are most suitable for heating or cooling a single room.

Wall fascia units
These are a bigger version of the window wall unit and can provide heating or cooling to a number of adjoining rooms. Wall fascia units are quieter and can be flush-mounted on the interior wall.
