Eco-Energy Solutions

There are several exciting ways to harness natural energy for domestic or business use. Some are well established in the UK, others are relatively new. Please call us on 01392 825738 to discuss the best options for you. Below are some of the options to consider.

Ground Source Heat (Geothermal) Pumps

In the UK, the ground source heat temperature stays at a constant 12C, and this can be used to heat your home or office. A pipe is buried underground; water is then pumped through it, which in turn is heated by the underground energy. Although the pump needs to be electrically powered, it uses only one unit of energy for every four units extracted from the ground.

Popular in the US, the Ground Source Heat Pump has yet to establish itself over here, and the Government’s Clear Skies Initiative will cover a considerable part of the pump and installation costs.

Solar energy

Solar Energy systems utilise heat energy from the sun, there are basically two types of systems:

Solar Thermal
Commonly used to heat swimming pools, solar panels can be put on your roof to soak up solar energy with which to heat your hot water cylinder. Cost savings are immediate and installation costs are low (£400 grants are available).

Solar Photovoltaic (Solar Electric)
A relatively newcomer to the domestic energy market, Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels are used to generate electricity. An eight metre square PV solar panel will save around £100 in bills – you can even sell energy back to the grid. The payback time may take a number of years, but the Government is offering up to 50% of installation costs. In this age of rising energy prices, investing in this system could be a very wise move.

Wind Turbines

With the biggest wind resource in Europe, the use of wind turbines to create electricity in the UK are very much in the news these days.

Domestic or business users can also have their own wind turbines: be it a mini-wind-turbine that sits on a pole in open land, or the smaller micro-wind-turbine – a new arrival to the green energy scene which will be available during the course of 2007. Micro-wind-turbines are small units (the size of a TV aerial or satellite dish) which can be mounted on the roof and therefore ideal in built-up areas.

The energy they create can be used for home or business, and any excess can be sold to the national grid.

Micro CHP

Micro CHP unit Micro Combined Heat and Power (or Residential Co-generation) technology is creating a quiet revolution in energy generation.

Our micro CHP system is an energy efficient, domestic appliance (no bigger than your average dishwasher) that generates both heat and electricity for use in the home.

Your personal power station

It is an effective and clean energy generation system which is poised to replace existing home boilers. Not only can it supply all of the household’s water heating demand (with domestic hot water and central heating), but at the same time it generates electricity which can either be used in the home or supplied back to the grid.
